An industrial robot is a robot system used for manufacturing. Industrial robots are automated, programmable and capable of movement on two or more axes.

Typical applications of robots include welding, painting, assembly, pick and place for printed circuit boards, packaging and labeling, palletizing, product inspection, and testing; all accomplished with high endurance, speed, and precision. They can assist in material handling.

Robots offer increased productivity, flexibility and precision. Factories see quite a large boom thanks to collaborative robots as they work together with the human workers with the purpose of increasing efficiency and flexibility.

Statistics show that by the year 2018 we will see around 1.3 million robots used in many different industries. Robotic systems are now valued as an industry at close to 32 billion USD. This is definitely something we should remember and take into account.
